Chaiken

Julie Chaiken is the founder and creator of Chaiken Clothing, one of the most recognizable clothing brands in contemporary women's fashion. After earning an M.B.A. in corporate finance from New York University, Julie launched Chaiken Clothing in 1994, successfully combining the essence of American sportswear with a fresh, modern perspective. The following year, Barneys New York introduced the line to consumers. The company quickly gained momentum and the clothes developed a fiercely loyal customer base.

Julie brings nearly two decades of experience to the fashion industry, both as a respected business leader and a highly regarded designer. Well known for her business acumen, Julie has played a lead role in all aspects of her company, from design and manufacturing to finance, marketing and sales. Today, Chaiken Clothing is carried across the U.S. in finer boutiques and upscale department stores.

Chaiken designs are also frequently featured in publications including Marie Claire, InStyle, People and Lucky Magazine, and Julie has been quoted and covered in Business Week, 7x7, San Francisco Magazine and The Wall Street Journal.

In addition to her work at Chaiken Clothing, Julie is actively involved in supporting organizations and causes that promote the rights of women and children. She currently serves on the boards of the Center for Reproductive Rights, the Kohn Foundation, the Chaiken Family Foundation, and she was a founding board member of the Art Council, now called Artadia and currently sits on the advisory council. She is also a member of REBOOT, a network of thought-leaders and tastemakers. Julie received her B.A. from University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.B.A. in Corporate Finance from New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Julie has two children and resides in Tiburon, California.
